Poetry for Scientists
------------------------------- 12/19/01 No need for ears to hear, eyes to see. What rises from the center of being isn't unsettled by form or matter. Light that chases away darkness is our blessing and privilege. It hides within the wind and water; the presence of all things. ******* The earth suckles us, what do we give? This could only be love. The world churns ahead, forms and changes, and changes again. We must fill some need, as we are eaten breath by breath. ******* There is a universal law of the wild, a rule, a rhythm, a pulse that moves everything forward. No compromises, no deals. To think otherwise is just plain civilized. ******* In the Desert 4/25/01 A mirage is uplifting. A larger mirage more so. Degrees of illusion only matter when we become truly thirsty; while tricked from afar we still have hope, When on our knees scooping up dry sand, the eyes might see water, but the lips don't lie. ******* Caught up in our spiral dance, we funnel ever smaller, until only the tiniest of what we are can pass through. That irreducible something is the DNA of everything:. ******* Consume June 2, 2002 While birds eat butterflies, I wonder why they get together in this way. In the same way, anything can be torn apart and scattered. I shake my headfull of ideas that the wind blows away like feathers. Nothing ever gets fully explained. While the sun shines the rain falls, washing the green iridescent wing left behind. Ions of evolution gobbled up in seconds. Cosmic entropy, beauty becomes the beast. Events can teach if we look long and closely enough. They teach vocabulary, like the word for the gut wrenching scream that embodies all of the pain of being pecked in two. We redefine the word beast instead, to mean that which consumes beauty in order to become beautiful. Sometimes you aren't what you eat. ******* Rise and Shine December 20, 2002 Reeling treetops eagerly catch the first of the sun's attention. They stretch their necks for a tiny glimpse of who's coming over the horizon. Waving and smiling like that, draws him even closer. ******* 1981 Time is a sentence, object and motion. In a thinking universe would we need space? Without space, can we have thought? Time is a sentence, object and being. Time is where space takes place. Everything else follows. ******* |
Poems from the Heart
------------------------------- We paint our personal reality onto the blank canvas of the moment. The beauty of that piece of art is in the conscious recognition and appreciation of the ability to paint. ******* Knock Knock Solitaire 4/1/04 Creating a conversation with a divine being is a one way dialogue, a two way monologue. Talking to myself I become self-conscious. Why would you want to come disguised as us? ******* Dying: When your spirit gets so big it doesn't fit anymore. ******* 1/15/13 The plan is to be here now so you'll be there then. ******* 1/17/13 The present is the best of the three illusions. ******* 12/4/11 Fashioned late, these lives we've chosen, or chosen from the start, we weave into a basket woven, less of mind and more of heart. ******* 11/14/13 High up in a desolate mountain above a remote village are meager caves where the holy go to retreat from themselves. to make room for the divine. The Holy Gho... Tiny caves to make room for the divine when there's ample room within. Why be a ghost among us, pick up your cave and walk.. ******* 8/13/13 Beyond this rusty rusty shore, this rust rusts no more.. ******* 2/23/11--2/20/13 We are before perception. We exist prior to experience. Here I am. In the end the earth takes us. The sky takes us, the sea, and we move on. ******* Invitation to Peace 1/26/14 Everything is breathing in and out. On ocassion there is one giant planetary breath, and the whole world lifts, and hangs suspended. We drift in repose, an invitation to peace. ******* As Castaneda Pointed Out 2/23/14 You may sit inside a rotting carcass waiting to snag your prey, an appropriate image for some of us. Our minds are foreign installations, far far from the beauty that we are. Throw off the corpse and run! ******* 1/3/13 Can God look in a mirror without getting blinded by the light? ******* |
Observations
------------------------------- Gray is a camouflage color that exposes age. ******* I don't hunt anymore. I killed two birds with one stone. They both died and flew away. ******* Faces This red rose has held its expression for days. Intensely staring out with one eye, it's taking a picture so it lasts longer. It knows that when it loses this pose, this passion, this pitch, it will have to open and face its bloom. ******* Psyche Exam Why does the victim walk away with the villain, leaving the savior to save themselves ******* Gleeful 2000 Men aren't allowed to use certain words; words to be avoided, especially in public. We never use words like pink or chiffon. I've never used the words pedicure. or drapery, or frilly ever. We're not graceful, and we don't get melancholy, or flustered. These aren't our words, men's words. If I use them by mistake, I get all...frazzled. ******* One bad apple spoils the whole bunch. Eat that apple first. ******* Silhouette September 3, 2000 A madman stands in a tree and with one hand holds back the dawn. If he doesn't stop it will push him right out. For a brief moment the night hesitates... Exhausted, he merges with the gray spaces between the branches. and can't tell himself apart. ******* Innocent Alibi The serpent was in the apple. ******* Butterfly August 20, 2000 She sets a feast that only few attend. She could feed an army but the army doesn't show. Everyone could be satisfied, no one would go hungry. Those who feed the world are the daily bread. They're sweet as pie to lay it out before us: consider love. High up in a treetop there's a ancient fruit that satisfies. Plant the seeds. ******* Billy Lives in the Moment Now Billy died and came back to life. Before he left he talked to God. Billy talked to God because: in the trenches there are no atheists. He watched his life pour out and couldn't do a thing about it. It emptied into a stream that washed his life clean and away. At the mouth of a big ocean Billy found himself, but he wasn't swallowed up, he floated upstream instead. Now Billy smiles whenever he cleans his glasses. ******* |
