Poems from the Heart
------------------------------- If you love for your country, maybe you won't have to fight for it. ******* Hound dogs on the trail of the sublime. ******* Class of 2006 Assembly Day One 9/2/05 Here it is, the Fall again, and a harvest is being planted. The soil is readied and the seeds eager. What weather will the season bring? Every seed will sprout; they always do, for good or bad. Each in secret will tend their own garden. Amazing, the fruit that comes forth in Summer. In this small expression of infinite possibilities, is the coming and going of destiny. ******* For My Middle School Class 11/04 I worry about stuff. I worry if my teeth are white enough, my hair still brown enough. Am I getting fat, or going flat? Do others like me or care at all? I wonder if I'll ever grow up or old. Am I fun? Are my clothes hip? Is my car cool enough, my bike just right? I worry about Iraq. My rutted driveway. My father, deadlines, and hairlines. The ever pain in my neck. How will I die, the last person I'll see... the last place I'll be. I worry about the stuff I write, and the dust in my house. But most of all and seriously true, I wonder and worry most about you. ******* The Subtle Body 6/30/13 Cupid is shooting arrows. Piercing sinew and bone. Lovers sing out with each fatal shot. ******* 1/31/07 A world in a kitchen, all to become part of me, I all of it. Man does live by bread alone, and he lives by bread with others too. But that which causes bread to become bread, wheat to become wheat, water to be water, feeds the rest of me. ******* 2007 What's the sweetest part of God? Focus there. ******* The sun rises, shines and sets... and keeps the moon full. Waves roll across the ocean, and never fall off, but fall and never break. Baby birds jump and fly, magical. Kind words that flow from one to another, arias of the heart. ****** This Kind 5/7/98 We can love in ways that don't hurt us. In our true self, in a deep breath, we can see each other clearly. Waves of merciless learning will come crashing in ruthlessly drowning us clean. ******* Sunrise Sun unknown to self, silhouetted still, yet in glory, clear your sight and recognize, you are the morning light. ******* |
Observations
------------------------------- 10/10/04 One hundred years from now people will realize you can't live life by, or run a country on a business for profit model. ******* Finding My face 9/4/04 If you want people of color to prosper, is that liberal or conservative? If you don't care if gays marry, or corporations do, is that liberal or conservative? If you want to bomb Iraq, is that radical, or just left of center? If you want to control the airways, are you being conservative, or to the far right of the dial? If you want to usurp the world's resources, politics and precepts, are you being greedy, or just plain practical? If you expect others to think for themselves, is that damn generous, or extremely naive? ******* Got a Right A man's got a right to feel safe walking around with hundred dollar bills sewn to his shirt if he wants, just as a woman has the right to wear what she damn well pleases. Wouldn't you like to grab just a few hundreds though? ******* 8/17/04 Some parents say I'm a great teacher. Not true I say, I have great students. Some say I'm a bad teacher. Not true I say. You're a bad parent. ******* We all thought we were communicating. Underneath the words, no one understood a thing. ******* Exclusive Neighborhoods in Vocabulary 10/10/04 Doctors, lawyers, auto mechanics, techies, politicians, the military... bodies of knowledge gated from common words. ******* How Shell Games Explain Events 7/14/04 This doesn't really mean this, it means that. And that, of course, really means something else, which is neither this nor that. What you thought you saw, never happened. What you assumed was said, was said, but really meant something else, as I said. Know what I mean? ******* 8/4/04 A civil war is fought every four years in America. Elephants and Donkeys; the Reds against the Blues; us and them. United States kinda. ******* A lane on the highway just opened up for me. I smile; it's a good day. We measure our lives and good fortune by these signs: free parking, short lines, a seat at the bar. How small our day in the great expanse. How pitiful, that for a time, my satisfaction relies upon empty space. ******* Extremist Values 2004 The way the sun loves the earth. The way the sky holds everything in place. The way it is all generously put before us. ******* |
