Observations
-------------------------------- If the department of education invented the train, the tracks would move, and the train would remain. ******* 7/7/09 If the Michael Jackson tribute happened the night before he died, maybe he would have slept better. Love your neighbor now. ******* Love does the heavy lifting. ******* Straightman 7/2/09 It wasn't a Big Bang. It was uproarious laughter. The second great act of the Creator was the knock knock joke. We get to say, who's there? ******* Taking Stock 2/26/09 I thought rock and roll would take over; long hair would take over. I thought the Russians would take over; the democrats, the libertarians. I thought drugs and sex would take over, and education, tv, the internet, China. I thought money and power would take over, and global warming. I thought rock and roll would take over. Swine flu taking over, the Muslims. The gays, the media, love and peace. But the Same always takes over. Rock and roll! ******* Horizontal Viewing 2008 Up with the early risers riding into the day's fog; a man, already washed and shiny covets his newspaper inside. Over doorsteps, in kitchens, softened lighting for both day and night. On her stoop, an old woman waits, reading Reader's Digest by thin light. 6:22 and even retail is still sleeping. Traveling across New England's good earth, the morning awakens the day. ******* Fitting Tribute 7/7/09 I just attended my own memorial. Yours too. Michael Jackson died. All the meaningful things they said about him, they said about us too. All the love that's lighting up the airways, same love for us. Michael Jackson died. The appreciation of his life and creative efforts; the acknowledgement of the love he had for all. The tears, the laughter, the unity, the eulogies... people honored to be there for you, Mike and me. The other night I yelled into an empty room, I shouted out my mother's name. A declarartion that she existed, was a good person, made a difference. You remember her name don't you? Michael Jackson died. ******* Ever wonder what ants think when you flick them off? Is the world softer when you're smaller? ******* Priorities 6/30/09 A politician cheats on his wife and gets big airtime. A chemical found in a common pain killer causes cancer, and is given 15 seconds. The viewers that are gained by the first, are lost by the second. ******* |

------------------------------- Devil's Advocate 4/10/09 The economist asked if buying into capitalism was investing in the root of all evil. ******* 2/24/09 We don't need to reinvent the wheel, we need to re-think the road. ******* Cups 4/15/07 Two cups, one empty, one full. Close by there is a fountain, with love it breathes us into being. The empty cup can be filled there. We can only talk around what is inward, never getting there. All the universe is wrapped around the empty cup, and fills it as well. But we can only become quenched from the one that is full. ******* This morning there was a tree standing here, and now it's in pieces on the ground. Three cuts severed seventy years of growth-- interacting, experiencing, surviving. It had a right to be here. It will keep me warm, smartly split chunks, stacked and drying. ******* Karma for Bad People 2/6/09 They come back, and in secret learn goodness, and live by a moral compass a compassionate life. This cultivation of the heart is ruled by a ruthless teacher, till all finally understand joy. ******* What Works and What Doesn't 3/5/09 The word works: it's been working hard we've been hardly working put them back to work good work she's working it workin for a livin. Work works. Out of work work for food put people back to work working overtime what works and what doesn't part-time work that won't work it doesn't work anymore. The word never tires, never stops for a break. It's a work-a-day world workaholic working force, working girl, work on it a little hard work a workin man that should work work it out what works and what doesn't. Goin to work work em over workers' rights working lunch works for me late for work work for peace war on work get back to work who works and who doesn't. ******* 12/28/08 There's an old wise man who many know and respect. He brings answers to questions; light to the darkness. He sits in silent solitude knowing what life will bring. Many come to listen. But there's more to this story. Not even the wise man knows that those who come to be made whole are merely pretending. Pretend to have problems, pretend that he sees, pretend so he may heal. By them acting out their weaknesses he gains his strength; they're lost and he finds his way. But there is more to this story. The wise man pretends that they need him. ******* |

------------------------------- Diet Firefly 7/4/06 There's a man who eats fireflies, he truly does. He goes into the forest at night and waits. As fast as each tiny candle is lit he gobbles them up, smiling a wide sunny glow. Sometimes he collects a whole handful and eats them all at once. He jokes and crunches and opens his mouth showing his jack-o-lantern smile. He puts a few in his pocket for jam, though fresh is the best. He knows we think he's crazy, only because we 've never tasted fireflies before. They're quite civilized, he argues, dabbing the goldleaf corners of his mouth. The light keeps one agile you know. The dawn comes and he's no longer hungry. Leaving the forest, he belches out a golden cloud. ******* Immersion 12/9/08 There are tears the world cries, humanity cries. We all own them. Although tears fall upon our cheeks, that are somehow wrenched from deep in our guts, they aren't of us. Something inside cries out--- the Berlin Wall comes down, a mother rocks her baby, Santa's Prancer is found, a father buries his son. Tears to wash us clean to grow our humanity in ways we don't understand. They fall from elsewhere. The heart within a heart cries from memories, sadness, abandonment. While a greater heart cries with love, compassion, understanding. The fertile field of emotion grows flowers whose fragrance unites us all. ******* 2008 The burning sage resting upon the log resting upon the fire, spoke in words the oak could not understand. Up in smoke they both went, and there is where the conversation began. ******* No 12/17/07 Some find no where to rest their head; no home, no clan. There is no knowledge or action where they may reside. Kin to no one but the invisible they aren't heard. With neither path nor destination, they bravely take the next step and the next. ******* 2008 To die for your country. Wouldn't it have been far better served to have lived? The millions dead throughout time where would we be with them and theirs? Civilization is a credit to the living. What could we have become with all that intended life? ******* 10/26/08 Every June we return from the war. There are no parades or waving of flags. No one is screaming, we love you! We single handedly battled 125 opponents every day, five days on two off, for the last ten months. There are no speeches or medals. This tour of duty has gone on for decades for some, who now return home satisfied and happy for the discharge. Just you against 125 a day... and you keep upping September after September, because year after year you keep winning. ******* |
