Observations
------------------------------- Big Bang, why Bang? Why not unfold, open, slide, slip, evolve, spring, spill, blossom, transcend? ******* Little Bang 10/25/07 Suppose God doesn't want to be everywhere? Know everything? A local God with local talents and interests. Small miracles, everyday creations. Low key, comes in unannounced. Comes in without a bang. ******* Elements 10/26/07 We burn like the sun float like clouds flow like rivers, as solid as the earth. All this inside us without moving, without a sound. The power of love, of life is a gift protected from all the elements for all time. ******* Time Rattle 9/19/10 The beginning has come around again-- hospital bed, white sheets, anticipation. Looking for signs of life. Nurses skirt in and out. Anyone who has ever entered this room, has waited for arrival. If the infinite comes before and after us, and to the right and left, and over and under, and inside us, where are we right now? Pain medicine is given; the time draws near. At what point did this life begin? My crazy thoughts join the others layered upon these floors and walls of the room where the living await death. Why do they say the waiting room is outside this room? Preparations have been made; a simple service, breaking bread with loved ones... It will be like jumping into the rapids where time pushes you forward, and a current brings you through a tight passage of love and death, God and man, fear and hope. The begining's come again. What powers the breath, isn't that the question, as these labored breaths run out till the end. Sucking in the sky with open mouth, drawing on the lungs of the world to do the heavy lifting, he breathes the breath of kings and pharaohs, of Adam. He exhales the scent of home, wild flowers in the park, the ocean in the morning. The world breathes deeper and deeper into his body, his being. It hesitates and stops, and waits for him to catch up. ******* |
Observations
------------------------------- I choose the God of weaklings. The one you pray to to avoid a fight, to turn everyone's cheek. The God of conflict avoidance. The one that ends wars. A God of mercy. God of let's all just get along. ******* 4/22/08 America being reborn natural-like into the age of earth awareness: living with, not just on. If we are wise and very very lucky, and make the right choices, we could grow up to become Indigenous People. ******* Job Security 7/21/08 Politician correcting the student, we need to act in the world we live in, not the one we dream of, setting the student aright. "Your reach should exceed your grasp." "Strive for your ideals." There are more of these quotes; we've all read them somewhere, school. To act in the world is to end hunger, poverty, homelessness. To act in the world is to keep the world and everyone on it healthy. These are true acts. Everything else is a dream. ******* Angel 4/28/08 To live in a child's drawing-- the smiling faces and big eyes of mother, father, sister, brother and Timmy the dog sitting at their feet. All beneath the bushy green tree with the singing bird. She made the sun smiling with sunglasses; gentle hills, a blue sky smudged across the sister's pink face, white clouds. Everyone's invited. The rosy cheeked family is waving, skinny arms hold up cartoon hands. Even Timmy is smiling at the orange and red flowers atop the rolling green hills. The tree has a black hole where a gray squirrel peeks out. There's a winding dirt path leading up the hill to the family. Over the tree, an angel floats upon a cloud. The sun's rays make her wings golden. ******* Natural Numbers 1/21/08 There is a natural count: none. one, more than one. Period. Naming's unnatural, man made. Numeration is unnatural: how many stars in the sky? how many grains of sand on the beach? How can we compound your interest? ******* 11/23/07 We live in the fear of dying, and not living while we're alive. ******* Say Something 11/20/04 Anything really worth saying? Anything worth saying, anything worth saying? If we stacked up everything that was ever said, it would reach from the butt of the earth to the moon. ******* |
Observations
------------------------------- 5/30/04 The birds are sanctifying their day. Chirping wildly they sing goodnight to their daily benefactor; the same light they'll greet in the morning. If all the voices everywhere sang together, every sunrise, every sunset, a never ending chorus of greeting, glory and gratitude... ******* 5/31/04 All those who have died in wars, the children, the women, the elderly and all those yet to die, will some day line up and one by one will hug and kiss their provocateurs to heal their damaged minds and hearts. ******* Setting a Tree Free 7/13/04 I have a portable tree I put outside in the Spring. It doesn't seem right, moving a tree around. It's unnatural. Sticking out of its little earth, I transplant it to the vastness of the deck. The wind comes and strengthens its stem, and purifies the space between the leaves, the rain washes it clean, infuses its veins. It stands up and shines. Just ain't natural. *******. Teachable 2/4/06 There aren't just teachable moments in teaching. There are memorable moments in learning, moments of indescribable joy, spontaneous laughter, immense realizations, and wonderful moments of individuality, kindness and care. Who remembers the teachable moments? ******* 7/4/04 The slow morning mist hangs heavy silent still; not even insects bother... A loud meandering synapse leaves behind this trail of graphite. ******* 2004 Somebodies been comin round lately, lookin for information, askin questions. I tell them I don't know nothin, but they keep askin and proben, proben and lookin. I make stuff up like: things jus happen, or life's not fair, or God works in mysterious ways. But they see through it. I know nothin and know I know nothin, and they know I know nothin. You can't hide anything from kids. ******* |
